What Central Baptist Church of Augusta Believes:

The Purpose of this church shall be as revealed in the New Testament - to follow the inspired word of God as the final authority in all things spiritual, to accept it as the only rule of faith and practice and to have Jesus Christ as the only creed, placing great emphasis upon the Christ-controlled life.

We believe in one God the Father, creator of all. God is Holy, just, pure and worthy of all praise. We believe what the Bible says about God: He actively intervenes in the lives of men.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and was with God from the beginning. His virtues are the same as God the Father. He was sent to earth in the form of man and was wholly God and wholly man. We believe in the virgin birth and that His death on the cross was the sacrifice for all sin, past and future. We believe in the resurrection and ascended into Heaven and seated at the right hand of God.  He is the one and only head of the Church and will one day return for his people.

The Holy Spirit is the third of the trinity. Given at the Pentecost to the first Christians and is received at conversion. The Holy Spirit guides, comforts and intercedes for Christians.

The Holy Bible is the true word of God and should be used for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that we can be thoroughly equipped for every good work. It is the one and only written source for the basis of our beliefs.

We support “Believer’s Baptism.” We all must believe in Christ and accept His gift to us and be willing to follow Him before baptism. It is an act of obedience, symbolizing the death of the old life and the resurrection of a new life in Jesus.  To become a member of our Church, one must have been baptized through immersion.

The Lord’s Supper is open to whoever has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Communion is the remembrance of Christ’s death on the cross for our sins.

Our church is a self-governed congregation, led by a Deacon Leadership Team, where a Deacon representative is assigned to each of the other 5 Ministry Teams: Property & Grounds, Christian Education, Finance, Music and Auxiliary.  Church members are always in abundance when it comes to work projects needing completed, Sunday teachers, Vacation Bible School workers and other area needs of the church.

Our Pastor needs to be led by the Holy Spirit and is sensitive to the Spirit’s direction of our church. The pastor’s commitment to God should be evident in their everyday life. They will be responsible for most of the Sunday services and special services of our church, including weddings and funerals. We desire that all sermons are biblically-based in their teachings. It will be vitally important that our pastor is able to work with a variety of people on our Ministry Teams, able to provide comfort, counsel, and spiritual guidance to individuals and visits of all sorts.

CBC is fully committed to the American Baptist Churches of the USA and the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region and don’t anticipate that changing.
